ZERO WASTE MODEL FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Print to order. We wait to print our designs on our products until your order is placed. This prevents excess apparel and product waste.
Partner with sustainable Original Goods Manufacturers. Our largest partnership is with Bella + Canvas, HQed out of LA. Bella + Canvas uses solar energy, recycles the water they use during their dying process, and repurposes their apparel by-products making them one of the most eco-friendly apparel brands on the planet.
Work with print vendors that take sustainability seriously. The specific direct to garment printers that our vendors use produce almost zero wastewater, use bio friendly inks and dies, and need less energy than screen printing of days past. Direct to garment printing also prevents the need for bulk ordering, which significantly limits apparel waste.
Our finished product is only packaged and shipped once. Our product is shipped directly from our print vendors to you. This cuts our carbon footprint by 50% logistically compared to many other retailers.
Staying local. Our largest Original Goods Manufacturers and Print Vendors are all located within the LA area, and very close to our Lo-Cal Mountain towns. By using vendors within close proximity to each other, as well as our customers, we have minimized the distance our products travel, making a significant impact to our carbon footprint.
Work from home. This lowers our carbon footprint by limiting, if not ending, the need to commute. With most homes having at least one family member at home these days, we are also saving energy by not heating, cooling, or lighting an unnecessary space.
OUR VALUES
History can attest to the power of community. Whether it was a tribe, village or sprawling city, we humans have always thrived when we are engaged with and supported by a strong group of neighbors. When we feel we are part of something greater, our best attributes come forth. At Wears the Mountain, we truly believe that if we can lift the tide, all boats will rise. That’s why supporting the community members and businesses --whether through local events, initiatives or engagement with local government-- is at the core of our success. That’s also why you will never see a Wears the Mountain storefront -- we believe in cooperation, not competition!
Our Partners: No business survives in a vacuum -- being actively engaged in the business communities we work in and supporting their goals not only helps us, but our communities grow.
Wears The Mountain is an active member with the Crestline, Running Springs, Wrightwood, and Big Bear Chamber of Commerce. Our founder, Sara Green, in a fully volunteer position, is the Treasurer of the Crestline Chamber of Commerce.
A Shared Mission: To promote and meet the needs of business and industry and to create the best community in which to live, work, and do business.
It’s the force that brings locals and visitors together; it’s the beauty that creates a sense of wonder any time we gaze over a bottomless canyon or up towards the canopy of trees. Nature is the reason we have a community and therefore is the most treasured gift of humanity that must be cherished and protected.
Wears the Mountain was formed under the “Print-On-Demand” business model -- it doesn’t get made until you order it! That means less waste from overstocked inventory being pushed back into the environment. Also, because the WTM staff works from home, without a storefront, this further lessens our impact on the environment.
Our Partner: Our Founder, Sara Green, is an active member with ROWIA, the Rim of the World Interpretive Association. ROWIA is responsible for overseeing Heaps Peak Arboretum, amongst other assets throughout the San Bernardino Nation Forest.
A Shared Mission: To raise public awareness of and inspire active interest in our National Forests.
At Wear’s the Mountain, we constantly ask questions. “What’s going on in town this weekend?”; “Where can locals and visitors find resources for community involvement?”; “How can we help Mr. Jones’ business get off the ground?”; “Where does this trail lead to?”. By embracing our inert curiosity, Wears the Mountain believes we can make a difference through understanding of all the diverse voices and backgrounds of our communities.
Our Partner: Our Founder, Sara Green, is a Board Member with the Rim Educational Foundation, serving on the Community Relations, Fundraising, Partnership with Schools, and Grant Writing Committees.
A Shared Mission: To support high quality educational programs that enhance and enrich student achievement. Our youth are our future.
We’ve all experienced the pain and frustration of a contractor who doesn’t get back to you, or a friend who flakes out on established plans; maybe a pesky neighbor that won’t trim his weeds after assuring you for months he would do so.As a local business in a small town where everyone knows your name, Wears the Mountain feels there is opportunity in doing the right thing. We keep our values in mind in everything we do. We seek to under-promise and over-deliver. And whether it’s an online transaction or business partnership, we treat all customers with the utmost respect and do not commit to that which we cannot execute with the best possible service in mind.
Our Partner: Our preferred Original Garment Manufacturer, Bella + Canvas, boasts superior craftsmanship, exceptional USA-made quality and commitment to sustainability established us as the go-to apparel company at wholesale and retail.
A Shared Mission: Integrity of product is one of our primary concerns. That's why Wear's The Mountain uses Bella + Canvas, for their shared commitment to quality and sustainability.
There is so much beauty, kindness and hope in the world, and we strive to live life with a pep in our step and a smile on our face in everything we do. Just as nature serves as a sanctuary from the pains of modern life, Wears the Mountain hopes to promote a new sense of hope for the future.
Our Partners: Wears The Mountain calls Lake Gregory home, and we fully support all the wonderful accomplishments The Lake Gregory Co has made in beautifying and enhancing our community.
A Shared Mission: To celebrate, showcase, and share our natural resources by creating priceless moments, lasting memories and love for our Rim Communities.
Our Founder
Spending the last 12 years working for large fashion eyewear houses, our Lead Project Manager and Designer, Sara Green, has come to us with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Growing up in New York under the wings of a mother that spent her time as an executive for Revlon cosmetics, Sara has been entrenched in the fashion industry since day one. After graduating from college, Sara moved to San Diego where she fell for a man that was able to open her eyes to a real, true, unwavering love -- for the mountains, of course!! (Spoiler alert - she still loves that guy, too.)
Moving to the quaint town of Crestline, CA in late 2017, Sara began to find peace and comfort in small towns and great neighbors. The hustle, bustle, travel and limelight of working for large fashion houses started to fade.
While wandering the hiking trails and lake edges that freckle the area, Sara began to realize her entrenched values of compassion and integrity were exactly what she should use as a foundation to give back to a community that, unknowingly, had already given her so much. From there, Wears The Mountain was born.
We will be a positive force. We will make an impact bigger than ourselves." -Sara Green
